Tony & Tina Gale from Cornwall in a group of six people who usually cruise together.
We have just returned from our second Princess cruise. Our first cruise was to Panama on the Coral Princess and it exceeded our expectations. This time on the Tahitian Princess to the South Pacific it was not such a good experience. It may have been because of the amount of travel you have to do and the two flights that you have to get there. American Airlines flight from Heathrow to Los Angeles was good but there was no one there to meet us even though we paid for transfers. We found our own way to the hotel and there was no information pack for us there as expected either. The Air Tahiti Nui was cramped and arduous, they pack you in like sardines. The check in process at the other end was good and we arrived very late in the evening worn out and hot and bothered and because of the late our there was not a lot of food available, some of our party had room service which was not very nice. One worry was that they do not encourage people to use the antibacterial gel even though it is by the gangway and at the entrance to the restaurant. This was always very important on the Coral Princess and with the heat we felt it should have been on the Tahitian Princess too. My sister was getting married on board and this was well organised and was very special. The restaurant was not as well run as we were used to but it might of been because the waiters that we had on our table on the Coral were excellent and we were spoilt because of that, on the Tahitian Princess the coffee was always late arriving or came before the sweet course but never at the right moment, the pepper mill was offered spasmodically and often we did it ourselves, small things but just annoying, you did not feel special because of it. Often in our cabin the steward forgot our ice and we had to call room service for it to be filled, it drove my husband wild.
Excursions were often booked on line which left very few options available to pick and choose from, this is something that we are going to have to look into before our next cruise so we have the same choice. The excursions we did go on we very good but you need to exchange your dollars for Polynesian francs or you get a bad exchange rate which changes in every shop. Local people are very friendly and proud of their heritage.
All in all our holiday was great but we have ticked this off as somewhere we have been but will probably not go back to because of the amount of travelling you have to get there.
