We have to agree with some of your comments. We, a party of 6 encountered awful unruly kids on our cruise, bouncing on the loungers etc as we tried to watch movies under the stars. The youth crewe(useless) constantly "pulled" my 24 year old RAF boy his girlfriend for identification etc in the bars while the kids ran amok,MOST ANNOYING.However the ship was lovely, food was great--and it did not stop us doing a TransAtlantic on her this year. How do you get parents to police their kids???We cannot believe some of your comments are you sure you were on Princess?????

What a horrid experience. But you said it yourself; "Child travel free places". With that offer and the fact it was May (cheaper time to take a cruise) I suppose it was inevitable that the cruise would be crammed with excitable kids. But how often do cruises offer that deal? Not many!
Try Sea Princess between October and April in the Caribbean. Many Brit families take their main holidays during the British Summer, not during the autumn/winter time so therefore you're unlikely to suffer the abuse you described. I always take my main holidays during the Easter break - on Sea princess, in the Caribbean. As a teacher, I'm ready for a break without too many children by Easter. That's why I choose those cruises.

I am really surprised to read the negative comments about this ship and its wonderful staff. The food was second to none, and the staff could not have done more to please us. Nothing was too much trouble. I've come to the conclusion, that maybe you reap what you sow, treat people as you would like to be treated and maybe you would not encounter below par service.

As an experienced cruiser who is nothing but polite to the excellent staff I have to say your 'reap as you sow' comment is naieve in the least. Perhaps you have misunderstood the original comments? All we want, is to enjoy a holiday without other peoples unruly children making it a misery. The ship was great, most of the staff were up to the great standard BUT the ones who should be doing something like Youth security, security generally and the pursers desk simply did nothing and didnt care.
Perhaps you like cruising with noisy unrly children but I dont.
How would you like to pay for a massage at a cost of £180 and have kids bursting in, banging doors, running in the spa swearing and shouting?
How about the 5,6 and 7 year olds allowed to run along the corridors shouting to other members of the family in their cabins at 2am???? As for the parents when asked nicely if they could get the children to calm down and reduce the noise levels - their response is unprintable
I have to say we have only ever experienced this kind of behaviour with British children - perhaps that says a lot about the UK??
Even most of the poor staff were at the end of their tether. So for us Princess sailing out of the UK is now a no go. However I hope you continue to have the same great service you have had to date

I am very suprised to hear of your experiences on Sea Princess in May this year,I think you were particularly unlucky. We went on Sea Princess for a cruise in the Mediterranean starting 14 June this year. It was an excellent cruise and we could not fault it in any way. It is our second cruise on Sea Princess and our third with Princess Cruises. We have also cruised twice with P & O and this was definitley the best cruise we have been on.

I am sorry to say that myself and 5 other members of family were on the same cruise on 14th June but have to agree with the comments of the other two writers, we were very disappointed with the Sea Princess having sailed last year on the Grand. We felt that standards were way below par, particularly the staff sadly lacking Princess Cruise's "Can Do" attitude. Reading quite a few reviews on this site, many returning passengers have the same comments regarding similar experiences. The ship is spotless and the food in the restaurants good, but it was sadly lacking in lots of other areas. Good luck with communications with Princess Cruises at Southampton, I felt they had the same lacking commitment and attitude.

What exactly are your critisisums of the Sea Princess cruise starting 14 June 2008? We found nothing to complain about, the only slightly annoyiing thing that happened was we booked an excursion to Lucca from Livorno, but it was cancelled because not enough people wanted to go, but that is out of Princess cruises hands.

Sadly have to agree with you about the Sea Princess staff. We cruised last year with Star princess and this year in July with the Sea Princess and could not believe how standards had dropped. It's interesting to read reviews from "past cruisers" who all seem to agree that service is lacking something on the Sea Princess. Hope Princess management read these reviews as they are bound to see a drop in business. We have written directly to Princess about our cruise but have not yet received a reply. We also had lots of children/teenagers on our cruise but have to say all seemed quite well behaved-it was the school holidays so we were expecting children on board.

it is sad to say that with the intro of free style cruises, that standards as a whole have slipped, we have been cruising for over thirty years, and have to say that the last two yrs have seen a rapid lowering of standards across the board. and the comments on this site only confirm this. i have been ridiculed to the extreem on this site, but the only way to improve things is to complain and keep complaining, cruises are not cheap. the companys need to get this sorted. why should people pay top price for nothing more than butlins on sea, cruisers like a bit of nice a dash of service and a hand full of value for money. not hoards of out of control kids, indif staff etc, that is not traditional cruising, i cant wait to read the out rage these comments wil cause, but they are the truth. by the way im not a typist so dont bother with the nasty comments i dont care if its not up to scratch. the points raised are still valed and true.

As an experienced cruiser you've probably realised the clientel of the cruising industry is changing and as such the companies have to adapt. Prices have been lowered (certainly compared to 15 years ago when I started cruising) and as such there are more people who come on holiday who are younger families or those seeking a non-stuffy cruising experience. Princess and other companies can't vet the people who come onboard and if they want to fill their ships they need to keep the prices lower and the entertainment and facillities need to accomodate this. The only other alternative would be to raise fares to what they were a few years ago... but would you pay more?! If traditional cruising is what you enjoy there are plenty of ships which offer this. Sea Princess offers anytime dining AND traditional and caters for family choice. If you want a higher clientel or child-free cruising you should be looking at P&Os Arcadia or one of the Cunard ships.
It seems ridiculous that staff on these ships are being blamed for childrens behaviour. When I was onboard staff went out of their way to make sure keeps were kept in line... but it's not a prison... it's a holiday, and ultimately a misbehaving child is the responsibility of the parents.
For anyone who doesn't think Princess is value for money, I would like to see a better value holiday where you can see so many places, have your food included, excellent room stewards and a variety of entertainment.
