Got married at sea on the Sea Princess and had an absolutely wonderful wedding day! This was our first time on the Sea Princess although we have cruised several times before on Thomson ships and always had a wonderful time as it is such value for momey. Having read many comments on this site that Thomson ships were the'lower end' of the cruise market, we had great expectations of sailing on this ship with its 4 star Berlitz rating.
However, whilst the ship itself was lovely in terms of decor etc, we were disappointed that the whole experience wasnt better.
The service was not equal to that of Thomson, wine was called by a number!, service in the dining room was slow and haphazard- probably because there were just too many passengers and although the staff worked very hard, the service was just not as good as Thomson dining believe it or not. Food was just as good as on Thomsons although Princess boast of 24 hour buffet but in reality there was nothing much to choose from, just the remainder of the cold meat or cakes from the day, whereas Thomson 24 hour buffet meant the chef would cook what you wanted at any time you wanted- curries, burgers snacks etc
Bar service was also not as good, again probably because of the number of passengers, the bar staff worked very hard but we had to wait on average 10 mins for service compared to our drinks being ready for us on Thomson by waiters who quickly learned what our tipple was.
Entertainment was poor and not a patch on Thomson entertainment shows- a big disappointment for us, and most annoyingly, at every possible opportunity they were tyrying to sell something to cruisers.
One major plus was the fact that there were ample designated smoking areas around the ship and even a cigar lounge
As for comments regarding the 'type of people' frequenting Thomson cruises, we found the same type of people on the Sea Princess.
All in all, whilst our wedding on the ship was organised to perfection, the overall experience was good, but sadly not as good as Thomson and much more expensive. We are looking forward to our summer cruise back on Thomson!

If your major plus is more smoking space, then it may be better for you to return to a Thomson cruise. Bring on No Smoking Cruise Ships

How rude! For your information Thomson cruises are all no smoking inside the ship. Clearly you did not read my review accurately or otherwise you would not make such an inappropriate and impolite comment. My review was based on my experience on the ships I have cruised on.
