Just returned from Easter cruise on Sapphire Princess to Australia and New Zealand. Great itinerary ... recommend stay in Sydney prior to cruise - we booked hotels independently and stayed in Old Sydney Holiday Inn - excellent location ... just a stroll across street to cruise terminal. Great for ferries and trains from Circular Quay. Open top red bus tour stops outside. Diamond Princess was up to expectation having cruised on Princess many times. Dome essential on this trip since weather a little unsettled - rather like England. We did not book any of Princess's Excursions but toured independently. Excellent value tram from quayside to City in Melbourne and free tourist bus trip around Melbourne. Hobart was quaint. Call in at Tourist Information Centre (shuttle bus drop off/pick up) for tours organised by the Local Information Centre. We went to Mount Wellington - fantastic views. New Zealand was lovely. Again all the Tourist Information Centres run tours and the taxi drivers are very helpful and will take you around. Christchurch a lovely city. The Antartic Visitors Centre is a must as is the City Tram. Tauranga is the gateway to Bay of Plenty. Fulfilled a lifetime ambition to see Rotorua - also countryside beautiful. Flew to UK from Auckland with a 3 day stop over in Hong Kong. Strongly recommend breaking flight from New Zealand - it is a long way. We were 2 adults and a teenager of 17 - all agreed a great cruise.
