We recently returned from a Mediterranean and Black Sea cruise on Pacific Princess. This was the smallest ship we have ever been on but it was excellent and the staff were so friendly. We had a balcony cabin on the stern of the ship which was another first for us as we usually have a mid-ships cabin. Apart from slightly more movement it was an excellent choice as we could see the shore on both sides when going through the Dardanelles and Messina Straits. Cruising through the Messina Straits under a full moon on a beautiful Mediterranean evening was truly magic. We loved Istanbul and would have liked to have spent longer there. Yalta, Odessa, Varna, Volos, Santorini and Sorrento were also lovely places to visit. The only disappointment with the whole cruise was that we were looking forward to returning to Santorini but it was spoilt for us in that there were five cruise ships there on the day and the island cannot cope with such large numbers. On our return from our coach tour we were left in Fira to get the cable car down to the harbour to board the tender to return to the ship. We had a 1 ½ hour wait in very hot conditions for the cable car and then quite a long wait for the tender. Cruise ships are not allowed by the local boatmen to use their own tenders in Santorini so you are at their mercy. Our ship being the smallest there that day was only allocated one boat. On our previous visit to Santorini ours was the only ship and we were able to explore the island in comfort, it really is a beautiful island but it has been spoilt for us and we do not wish to return.
