A very enjoyable experience.

My wife and I took the Western Med cruise on the Grand Princess on 30/08/08. We were very impressed with the pleasant service and the disembarkation process at all of the ports visited. We chose the Any Time Dining which was a great success. We seemed to be ready to eat most evenings at around 7-30pm and this is exactly mid way between the set dining times.

The facilities on the ship were excellent as was the entertainment. Room service provided free tea and coffee very promptly, but we would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in the cabin. This is our only small negative on what was a most enjoyable holiday.
Quality of Food5
Dinners in Da Vinchi/Michelangelo restaurants. Other meals in the self service Horizon. One evening in the surcharged Painted Dessert. Mainly beef and seafood.
Entertainment4
The hypnotist was a little disappointing. The Jerry Lee Lewis pinist was very special.
Shore Excursions4
The only ship excrsion we took was to Florence and this was excellent.
Staff5
Paul the Cruise Director, our cabin steward Robert and the dining room waiters en masse.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities4
Excellent selection, the only small disappointment was that the "tokens" that we won could not be claimed on the last day so we came away empty handed. It was probably our own fault as we hadn't realised that they had to be cashed in earlier. Very small moan.
Cabins5
Cabin was excellent.

we were on the same cruise, all fantastic, food, staff, entertainment, all fantastic.. only concern was lack of courtesy coach facilities in some ports, and cruise arranged day trips a very expensive. Danny..from Scotland.

Take a travel kettle next time like I do. Well worth it for a truly 'hot' cup of tea/coffee. If you order from room service, use the hot water provided in the kettle - it boils a little quicker !

I have booked a cruise for 1 August 2009 on the Grand Princess. The itinerary is Southampton Malaga Cartagena Barcelona Monte Carlo Rome Naples/Capri Corsica Gibraltar. Did you do any tours in these places? Any advice?

In Barcelona, you dock quite close to the city and you don't need to spend on the official tour as it's quite easy, and fun, to do your own thing. Rome is an exception. The Princess tour was very good and very informative and as you dock one and a half hours travel away it is a good idea. Gibraltar is very easy to see on your own, mini busses are available from the town centre to visit the top of the rock, very worthwhile, and much cheaper than Princess. I have visited some of your other ports of call, but not on Princess so comments wouldn't be fair. You'll have a great time, one suggestion, choose any time dining it is excellent and allows greater flexibility.

The ships tours are a little expensive but the one to Rome is very informative. We took a mini bus tour from the centre in Gibralter to see the caves, tunnels and apes on Gibralter and this was excellent and far cheaper than the official tour. Barcelona is easy to tour on your own or on the City Tour buses. We didn't visit the other towns on this trip.

If you are interested in football then an absolute must is to visit the Neu camp football stadium in Barcelona. Its only for 31/2 hours and it was well worth it.
