Our fifth cruise but our first with the Princess line.
The first week was spent travelling through the Canadian Rockies where the scenery was unbelievably beautiful and we were lucky enough to see lots of wildlife. The organisation was superb throughout, made all the better by a very knowledgeable guide. Hotels were excellent and it was a nice touch that our luggage was waiting in our room at every stop. A tip for you if doing this holiday is to pack a separate case with your things for the cruise, that way they can remain undisturbed and that case can remain on the coach for the first few days if you wish. The highlights of those first few days were walking on a glacier, lunch at the Lake Louise Chateau and the white water rafting trip.
For the latter part of the journey, Jasper to Vancouver, we were on the Rocky Mountaineer. This was absolutely brilliant. The service was excellent and the commentary provided by a very knowledgeable steward, was first class.
The farewell dinner in Vancouver was most enjoyable.
The only down side to this trip was crossing the border to catch the ship in Seattle. The crossing itself took over two and a half hours and therefore was not a pleasant experience. We were lucky, as apparently the previous week it had taken four hours. If doing this trip again we would definitely sail out of Vancouver.
We were lucky with the weather on this trip and the day we sailed out of Seattle it was 35 degrees!! The Golden Princess is a beautiful ship and has everything you could possibly need for a wonderful cruise. We had a stateroom with a balcony (a must for the Alaskan cruise if you can) on Baja deck. A similar size and layout to cabins we have had for other cruises, it was very comfortable. The staff throughout the ship were friendly and efficient and the service from the cabin steward was excellent. We ate mainly in the Canaletto restaurant where the food was very good and the service was first class. The buffet area at the top of the ship was good, if as always a little crowded. The food here again was really good and the service could not be faulted. Entertainment was good and we particularly enjoyed the enrichment lectures which were fun and gave a great insight into Alaska.
The highlight of this trip was definitely the Tracey Arm Fjord which was unbelievable
