Travelled on the Emerald Princess during the Easter holidays for 2 weeks around the Caribean. Have travelled with princess before on the Dawn and were worried about this ship being too big. We need not have worried, fantastic ship and fantastic holiday. We were aa family of 4 travilling with kids aged 13 and 17 and another family with kids of the same age, had 2 outside restricted outside cabins on emerald deck with 2 inside cabins opposite for the kids. Cabins were much bigger than we anticipated they would be and had everything you needed. No complaints at all. We only tended to see the kids at dinner in the evening and yes they all ate with us every night, good choice for everyone and most nights all of us went to see the shows which again were excellant. Customer services were helpful and always happy to print off bills for you to check every couple of days if you wanted. Internet deals were available for the kids.
Didnt get time to do movies under the stars. The ship never seemed crowded and we nevr had trouble getting a lounger though there was of course the normal saving of loungers but you get that on every ship. Waiters and bar staff were not pushy and all staff were pleasant and always keen to help. Constant supply of towels available by the pool and in cabins.
Visited some beautiful islands, antigua and st lucia being the best. Did a couple of organized tours and other times made use of the local taxis's that were always available. Did an excellant islanad tour of barbados. Boat trips organized by Princess were excellant and the 4 kids even did the rainforest adventure trip in st lucia on their own. This was safe and well organized.
I would recommend the Emerald to anyone and do not worry about the size, as we never felt that is was crowded even though the ship was full. We always found a bar or lounge to relax in. The two formal nights were lovely. Chose any time didning and only once did we have to have a bleeper and then it was only a 10 min wait. I think it is easier for larger parties to get tables quickest.
Now to the negative, of which there are only 2, getting to the ship and leaving the ship. Our trip included an overnight stay in Miami and due to previous experience we decided not to wait for the bus to take us from the hotel to the ship, we booked a mini bus for the 8 of us and it cost us £20.00 each which was well worth it.(hotel booked the taxi for us and we just pd a asmall deposit) Seeing everyone waiting in reception for the coaches with cases everywhere made us sure we had made the right decision. We had as we were on the ship by 12 and we knew every one else was still waiting at the hotel. The day of disembarktion was awlful, queing for different buses in the heat, then siting on the buses for ages, then being taken to a shopping mall for 3 hours to wait for our 7.00 pm flight home was not good. Only a small shopping mall with rubbish shops. We would plan our own thing next time.
Fab holida fab ship and visited fab places. Only negative points were getting there and then getting off.
