Tahitian Princess RenamedPrincess Cruises are set to rename one of their smallest ships, Tahitian Princess – changing it in 2009 to become Ocean Princess to reflect the ship’s new worldwide deployment. The renaming will take place in Singapore on November 2009 whilst the ship is out of service for routine maintenance. The cruise ship joined the Princess fleet in 2002 and has mostly sailed in the South Pacific, however starting from this summer she will cruise worldwide itineraries in Asia, Northern Europe and Alaska. "Tahitian Princess, along with our other two small ships, has developed a loyal following of passengers who enjoy a more intimate cruise experience, and also the opportunity to visit some off-the-beaten-path destinations," said Jan Swartz, Princess' senior vice president of customer service and sales. "As this ship is now sailing on itineraries around the world, we felt its name should reflect a more global theme."

It is a shame that the Tahitian Princess is being renamed, but they probably need the ship elsewhere in Europe, & so using an old name such as Ocean Princess, which the "Oceana" originally was seems necessary.
We sailed on the Tahitian Princess in March 2004 & thoroughly enjoyed everyday we spent on her, but if they were not getting enough business out there, then it makes sense to bring it back to Europe, as the so called small "Specialist" ships seem to cover the South Pacific very well, such as the Paul Gaugain & others
