Q: Yellow Fever Vaccination. We are going on the Pacific Panama Canal cruise (Island Princess - April) and we are getting conflicting views as to whether we need a yellow fever vaccination. We will be visiting Guatemala and Nicaragua, and I see from various websites that as certificate of vaccination 'may be required' in these two countries. Our GP has offered to give us exemption certificates as there are increased risks for people over 60. If anyone has visited these countries, any advice/experiences would be appreciated.

Many thanks for responding. It is our local accredited centre who are questioning whether we need it or whether we an get away with an exemption certificate. I posted the question to find out if any other people had done a similar trip and whether they had to produce a certificate of vaccination at any of the ports. I will contact Princess - why did I not think of that!!!! Once again, thank you for your help

Just contact your cruise company--they will tell you exactly what,if any, vaccinationa you require. My mother had her yellow fever vaccination at the age of 75--no ill affects-she wasn't going to miss her trip up the Amazon

I would suggest you look at http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23068854/ Where it states below Yellow fever vaccine can only be given at accredited centres. Many GP practices are accredited, but if your local GP practice is not accredited you can find a list of the nearest available centres at www.nathnac.org This has various links to Dept of Health pages which may be of assistance. If not I would suggest perhaps checking with your local Tropical School of Medicine who may be of some assistance.
